Previous PhD Students

Dr David Miller (University of Illinois at Chicago, USA)

Dave completed his PhD entitled ‘Combining behavioral and neurolinguistic methodologies to investigate Spanish scalar indefinites among mono- and bilinguals: an event-related potential study’ with Prof. Jason Rothman in 2017. He’s now an Assistant Professor in Hispanic Linguistics at the University of Illinois, Chicago.

Dr Vince DeLuca (University of Birmingham, UK)

Vince completed his PhD entitled ‘Changing our brains and minds: exploring the effects of individual differences in bilingual language experience on brain structure, function, and cognition’ under the supervision of Christos Pliatsikas in 2018. He’s now working as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Birmingham.

Dr Eloi Puig Mayenco (King’s College London, UK)

Eloi completed his PhD entitled ‘Polarity in L3 English: The Initial Stages and Beyond’ under the supervision of Jason Rothman and Ian Cunnings in 2019. After completing an ESRC Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Southampton, he is now a Lecturer in Applied Linguistics at King’s College London.

Dr Toms Voits (University of Tromsø, Norway)

Toms completed his PhD entitled ‘Bilingualism as a Neuroprotective Factor in Ageing: Insights from Healthy and Clinical Populations’ under the supervision of Christos Pliatsikas. He is now a Postdoctoral Researcher working in the AcqVA Aurora Centre and the PoLaR Lab at the University of Tromsø.

Previous Postdocs

Dr Fatih Bayram (University of Tromsø, Norway)

Fatih completed his PhD in Educational and Applied Linguistics at Newcastle University and worked as a postdoc at the University of Reading between 2016-2018. He is now a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoctoral Fellow in the Department of Language and Culture at the University of Tromsø in Norway.

Dr Jorge González Alonso (University of Tromsø, Norway)

Jorge completed his PhD in bilingual morphological processing at the University of the Basque country in Spain. He worked as a postdoc in the Psycholinguistics and Neurolinguistics Lab here at Reading in 2016 and is now a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Language and Culture at the University of Tromsø, Norway.

Previous Academic Staff

Prof. Jason Rothman (University of Tromsø, Norway)

Professor Rothman helped setup the Psycholinguistics and Neurolinguistics Lab during his time at the University of Reading. He is now a Professor at The Arctic University of Norway where he runs the PoLaR Lab, but still maintains active research affiliations with members of the lab.
