The University of Reading has a number of PhD studentships available that applicants can apply for to begin PhD study in September 2025. More details for some specific calls that staff in the lab would be interested in supporting are provided below. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list, so do please contact us if you are interested in applying to either the schemes below or another scheme that you may know of.
Magdalen Vernon Studentship (Deadline: December 5th, 2025)
The School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences is happy to offer the Magdalen Vernon Studentship. Open to UK and International applicants, this 3-way PhD award covers fees, provides a yearly stipend, and a Research Training Support Grant. SEDarc PhD Studentships (Deadline: December 12th, 2025)
The University of Reading is part of the ESRC funded SEDarc Doctoral Training Partnership which awards studentships for either PhD study, or combined MSc/PhD study involving a 1-year MSc followed by a PhD. These studentships cover fees and provides a yearly stipend and a Research Training Support Grant. These studentships are open to UK and International applicants. Please see the University’s SEDarc webpage for further information. The deadline for full applications at Reading is December 12th, 2025.
University of Reading International PhD Studentships (Deadline: January 5th, 2026)
The University of Reading also offers 4-year International PhD Studentships to International students which cover fees at the international rate, a yearly stipend and a Research Training Support Grant. The deadline for applications for the International PhD Studentship is January 5th, 2026.
Felix Scholarship (Deadline: TBC)
The Felix Scholarship is open to Indian citizens who are currently living in India and who must not have previously studied outside of India for one year or more. It covers fees and provides a yearly stipend. Information for the competition in the 2025/26 academic year will be released in due course.
China Scholarship Council Studentship (Deadline: January 2nd, 2026)
The China Scholarship Council Studentship is open to Chinese citizens and candidates must not be working abroad at the time of application. The scholarship covers fees and provides a yearly stipend and a Research Training Support Grant. Applicants must first be offered a place for PhD study at the University of Reading, and then submit an application to the China Scholarship Council. If successful, a final funding offer will then be made to two selected candidates by the University of Reading. To be considered, applicants must apply for a PhD at Reading by January 2nd, 2026.
University of Reading Centenary PhD Bursaries (Deadline: May 1st, 2026)
To celebrate University of Reading’s centenary, the university is offering Centenary PhD Bursaries for PhD study commencing in September 2026. These will cover home fees for up to 4 year full-time study (or part-time equivalent) and provide a research training support grant. The deadline for application is May 1st, 2026.
