Abstract:
It is estimated that around 7% of the UK population live in food poverty and almost four million children live in households that struggle to afford a healthy diet. It is believed that the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent cost-of-living crisis exacerbated UK food insecurity, although evidence indicates that the rates had been rising in the decade preceding the pandemic. Food insecurity has far reaching consequences for health and well-being, impacting children, adolescents and their parents. This seminar will focus on the potential role that food parenting practices play in understanding the link between food insecurity and child/adolescent health outcomes.
