milk dietary iodine intake

The IFNH have given a presentation looking at whether our dietary iodine intake is adequate at a UK conference.

The 41st Annual Meeting of the European Thyroid Association (ETA) was held in The Sage Concert and Conference Centre in Gateshead from the 15th to the 18th of September 2018. The Iodine Global Network, allied to ETA, organised a session on ‘Achieving Optimal Iodine Nutrition’.

The IFNH contributed an invited presentation to this session on ‘Dietary iodine intake: is it adequate nowadays?’ This explored recent evidence on sub-optimal iodine status of UK pregnant women, in particular, and possible consequences for neurological development of their children.

The role of milk as a key dietary iodine source was discussed, as were the factors which influence the iodine content of milk.
