We will welcome a performance of Not I by Samuel Beckett to Minghella Studios on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September 2026 for a specially conceived triptych evening of music, literature and performance. The production has been curated and produced by Arts Over Borders as part of their 2026 Beckett Biennale programme, in association with the Beckett Research Centre, and it will be performed by Claire Booth and directed by Sir Rufus Norris.

Claire is an acclaimed soprano (2025 Royal Philharmonic Society Singer of the Year Award), who will bring her classically trained voice to the monologue of Mouth – the text will be spoken, however, and not sung! Rufus was Artistic Director of the National Theatre from 2015 – 2025, where he directed Small Island and wonder.land, among many other notable productions – this will be his first directing role in the UK since leaving the National.

Curated by Arts Over Borders, the evening will unfold across three spaces within Minghella Studios; beginning with a performance by Claire Booth of Sequenza III (1966) by Luciano Berio, a piece of music which mirrors Not I in style, the event will continue with Claire Booth and Rufus Norris in conversation, followed by a selected text reading and culminating in the performance of Not I. Related documents from both the Samuel Beckett and Billie Whitelaw archives will be on display before and after the performances.
