Can watching Peppa Pig in a variety of languages fast-track multilingualism?

Research at Reading has shown that learning an additional language can boost critical thinking skills. In a recent MailOnline article the author explores the trend for children watching shows in foreign languages and asks whether this can be a fast-track method for children to become Bilingual. Referring to a mothers specific experience of allowing her son to watch Peppa Pig in a variety of different languages, she hopes that hearing vocabulary in different languages will help him become bilingual or, spark an interest in other cultures.

Professor Suzanne Graham in the Centre for Literacy and Multilingualism studies second language acquisition and doubts Peppa’s ability to produce foreign language fluency on on its own, arguing that as well as hearing a language they need the motivation and opportunity to communicate it the other language as well.
