Dr Federico Faloppa‘s project “Training professionals in Italy on intercultural (mis)communication and (mis)representation of migrants and minorities” draws on research on issues of cultural representation and intercultural (mis)communication, exploring the problems created when linguistic and cultural barriers exist in multicultural contexts, and how to solve them.
The aim of the research is to influence the way professionals design and conduct their own projects with these vulnerable groups – for example, how migrants and minorities are represented in the media.
The project has four strands:
- Therapy, interpreting and migration
- Training trade union members on language and migration
- Training journalists on representation of migration and minorities in the media
- The Alexander Langer Foundation project
Participants of the project range from health practitioners, media professionals, union reps, and NGOs.
